The Steering Committee

Contrary to what some may have suggested, members of the Steering Committee receive no payment or remuneration of any kind. In fact, the opposite is true — they are personally absorbing out-of-pocket costs in order to keep this initiative running, including expenses for website hosting, printing, and cloud services such as AWS. These are individuals volunteering their time and their money because they believe in this community.

CID NPC Board

Like the Steering Committee, members of the CID NPC Board serve in a voluntary capacity and are not paid for their time or their service. They give freely of their expertise and energy in the interest of the community they represent.

CID Staff

CID staff are salaried employees and are compensated accordingly — but at market-related rates that are fair, transparent, and in line with industry norms. There is nothing unusual or improper about this; these are professionals doing a job, and they are paid as such.

Will CID money be used to benefit other areas?

No. This is simply not how CID funding works. By law and by design, the money stays where it is raised. 97% of all funds generated through the CID Levy are paid directly into the CID Non-Profit Company — ring-fenced exclusively for use within the CID area. The City of Cape Town retains the remaining 3% as a Bad Debt Provision to account for unpaid levies. Importantly, once that provision has been reconciled, any unused portion of that 3% is returned to the CID Non-Profit Company at the start of the following financial year.

There is no mechanism — legal or otherwise — by which CID funds can be redirected to benefit other areas. Every rand raised here stays here.

What will the Table View CID actually do?

The Table View CID will deliver targeted, visible improvements in the three core areas our community has prioritised:

Enhanced Safety & Security

Additional visible patrolling, rapid response support, and coordination with SAPS and City Law Enforcement to deter crime and make our streets feel safer.

Cleaner Streets & Public Spaces

Supplementary cleaning crews focused on litter removal, illegal dumping, graffiti, and maintaining parks and sidewalks beyond standard municipal service levels.

Better Urban Management & Community Support

Improved maintenance of public infrastructure, greening initiatives, and social outreach programmes that strengthen the community we all share.

These priorities come directly from resident and business feedback during the Urban Management Survey. As a community-led initiative, the exact services will evolve based on ongoing input from Table View property owners and residents.

Do CIDs actually improve safety?

Yes. City Improvement Districts across Cape Town have a strong track record of making measurable differences to safety and security. Other established CIDs (such as the Cape Town Central City Improvement District and Claremont CID) have shown:

• Increased visible foot patrols and professional security teams working in partnership with SAPS
• Faster response to incidents and better coordination with law enforcement
• Significant reductions in opportunistic crime, graffiti, and anti-social behaviour through consistent presence and rapid intervention

The model works because CIDs provide supplementary services on top of what the City already delivers — more eyes on the street, quicker clean-ups, and stronger community partnerships. Table View will follow this proven approach to create a safer environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Will the CID make our area noticeably cleaner?

Yes. Supplementary cleaning and maintenance are among the quickest and most visible wins delivered by CIDs. In other Cape Town CIDs, dedicated teams have:

• Removed thousands of tons of litter and illegal dumping annually
• Reduced graffiti and urban decay through rapid response
• Maintained parks, sidewalks, and public spaces to a higher standard than standard municipal services alone can achieve

Table View will follow the same model: consistent, focused cleaning and maintenance that keeps our suburb looking cared for and welcoming for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
